The Attack on History

It is no secret that there has been an attack on history. Our Founding Fathers have been painted as criminals, national holidays that celebrate historical events have been labeled offensive, and historical sites have been vandalized. There is no doubt that these attacks come directly from the left. But why do they work so hard to destroy our past?

Would you be surprised if I told you there is a connection between communism and the degradation of our country’s history?

On January 10th, 1963, a document titled Current Communist Goals was presented to the US Congress and was added to the Congressional record “under unanimous consent”. It lists 45 goals pursued by the Communists to overthrow America by infiltrating and corrupting its key institutions. If you read through the 45 goals, it will make you sick to your stomach. Even though this document was published 60 years ago, it has become alarmingly pertinent.

I would highly encourage you to read carefully through ALL 45 points, but I am going to focus on just a few parts of them.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.”

Wow. These four points are self-explanatory. Destroy American culture, history, and patriotism.  Sadly, we have seen several of these goals accomplished or close to being accomplished. But why do they need to destroy history? Not only is history a teacher and a tool we can use to analyze current events, but it also fuels our patriotism. If you destroy a nation’s pride, then it is easier to take over their country.

1984 by George Orwell was published in 1949 and is a work of fiction, however, it has become hauntingly parallel to today.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book was rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute.”

As we see statues taken down, schools renamed, and books canceled in an attempt to erase history, we cannot help but wonder what our future will hold? It may be cliche, but we must look to our past to see our future.

Will we allow the communists to accomplish their goals? Are we willing to let them destroy our history, our culture, and ultimately, our country?

I know I’m not willing to let this happen. Are you?
